In the homebrew world, malt liquor isn’t taken seriously. There’s no BJCP category for it, other than 34C (Experimental), and few people brew it. It don’t get no respect, no respect at all. It’s the Rodney Dangerfield of beer styles.
Brewing in the Guianas, The Hidden Corner of South America

Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana, collectively known as the Guianas, are home to a variety of languages and cultures, and a diverse array of brewing traditions.
While beer may be England’s go-to drink, cider is a much-beloved beverage. In fact, the United Kingdom consumes more cider than any other country in the world.
Todd Donnelly of Chardon, OH, a member of the Society of Northeast Ohio Brewers (SNOB) homebrew club, won a gold medal in Category 38: Specialty Mead in the 2023 National Homebrew Competition Final Round in San Diego. Donnelly's Experimental Mead earned gold out of 46 entries.
Duke Austerberry of Ferndale, MI, won a gold medal in Category 25: Strong Belgian Ale in the 2023 National Homebrew Competition Final Round in San Diego. Austerberry's Belgian Dark Strong Ale earned gold out of 100 entries.
Steve Fletty of Falcon Heights, MN, a member of the Saint Paul Homebrewers Club, won a gold medal in Category 34: Traditional Mead in the 2023 National Homebrew Competition Final Round in San Diego. Fletty's Semi-Sweet Mead earned gold out of 33 entries.
