Bio
Jeff Whelpley is a Certified Cicerone® and Certified BJCP Judge with 25 years of homebrewing experience. Based in Chicago, he has been a cornerstone of CHAOS Brew Club (a 501(c)(3) homebrew makerspace) since 2013, serving in multiple leadership roles, including president and membership director.
Jeff founded BrewBQ, a premier regional homebrew festival, and leads sensory workshops and year-long BJCP preparatory courses across Chicagoland.
Beyond homebrewing, Jeff has built a distinguished career in public service. A U.S. Army veteran who served as a cryptologist and team leader at the Department of Homeland Security, he now applies his expertise in complex logistics and oversight as a contracting officer for the General Services Administration. In this role, he manages 30 federal contracts spanning 25 states.
Jeff holds a master’s degree in public administration and an undergraduate degree in criminal justice, blending a life of service with a passion for the craft and science of beer.
