Fermentation hobbyists and beer lovers are invited to national homebrewing gathering June 22-24 in San Diego
What
Homebrew Con™ (HBC), the nation’s largest annual gathering of brewing and fermentation enthusiasts, is headed to San Diego June 22-24, 2023. Produced by the American Homebrewers Association (AHA), new and experienced homebrewing hobbyists are invited to attend the three-day conference for good brews, good vibes, and brew-IQ-boosting sessions.
There will be something for every fermentation fan in sunny San Diego. An all-star speaker lineup of more than 60 homebrew, cider, mead, and fermentation experts will share their knowledge with attendees of all skill levels. Education tracks include:
- Beyond Beer, focused on non-beer fermentation
- New to Homebrewing, geared towards attendees who are new to the hobby
- Brewing Processes & Expertise, digging deeper into crafting flavorful beer with expert homebrewers
New to HBC this year are two, three-hour workshops focused on brewing a five-gallon batch of beer. The beginner and advanced workshops will take place poolside on Saturday, June 24.
In addition to learning and brewing, there will be plenty of fun, social, and sampling activities, including receptions, meet and greets, Club Night, Homebrew Expo, Social Club, and more.
The conference concludes with the National Homebrew Competition (NHC) awards ceremony, where winners of the world’s largest amateur homebrewing competition will be recognized for the most outstanding homemade beer, mead, and cider. In addition, there will be six annual recognition awards announced at the ceremony.
San Diego itself is home to one of the most active homebrewing populations in the nation, with 13 homebrew clubs, three homebrew supply shops, and other grassroots organizations that promote the hobby of homebrewing and all-things fermentation.
The lively professional craft beer community is vital to the state of California, where there were 931 craft breweries — the most of any state — that brought in an economic impact of $9.03-billion-dollars in 2021. In the greater San Diego area, there are over 150 independent craft breweries that bring to life a rich craft beer history through unique tasting rooms.
