In this Zymurgy Live webinar, Bierstadt Lagerhaus Owner and Head Brewer Ashleigh Carter talks “Homebrewing, Lagering, Spunding, and What’s Next in Beer” with American Homebrewers Association (AHA) Executive Director Julia Herz. Ashleigh homebrewed before becoming globally famous for making one of the best lagers in the world, and her first job in beer was working at a Homebrew store!
Ashleigh Carter is one of the owners and head brewer at Bierstadt Lagerhaus in Denver, Colorado, which opened in 2016. In her more than a decade-long career she has gone from a homebrew shop where she packaged specialty malt and hops, to an assistant brewer at Dry Dock Brewing (Aurora, Colo.), to the lead brewer at Prost Brewing (Denver, Colo.), and is now in charge of everything beer at Bierstadt. Her vision of a three malt, two hop, one yeast brewery, replete with horizontal lager tanks and a hard-to-find-outside-of-Bavaria flotation tank is firmly rooted in traditional techniques and patience.

Julia is a Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) Certified beer judge, Advanced Cicerone®, medal-winning homebrewer, and experienced zymurgist who has been making beer, mead, and fermented foods since 1994. Julia is the co-author of Beer Pairing: The Essential Guide from the Pairing Pros (Voyager Press, 2015), the CraftBeer.com Beer & Food Course, and co-host of the Sense of Beer Style Show.
