  • Who can vote? You must be an AHA member in good standing to participate in voting.
  • When do nominations close? Feb. 7 is the final date to submit an application or nomination.
  • When does voting close? March 29
  • What happens after I submit my application? Once you apply, you’ll have provided all the information needed for consideration. From Feb. 7 through March 1, the current AHA board will review applications and select finalists for the member vote. You’ll be contacted directly if you are selected to move forward in the process.
  • Do I need prior board experience? Not strictly, but familiarity with homebrewing and nonprofit governance helps.
  • How long is the commitment? Board service is a three-year term. Directors may be re-elected for up to three consecutive terms. The role includes monthly virtual meetings and two in-person meetings per year, along with time for meeting preparation, committee work, and staying up to date on communications and materials. On average, board members should expect to commit about eight to 16 hours per month, with some months busier than others.
  • How many board directors are there? Seven total with four open seats.
  • What is the role of the board? See our Volunteer Guide for an overview of the board’s role and all committee charters.
  • Who is currently on the board? See our Volunteer Page to view AHA’s current board members.
  • Where are the AHA bylaws? The American Homebrewers Association has just (we mean within the last few days) received IRS approval for 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) tax-exempt status! We are preparing to publish the AHA bylaws reflecting this approval and will share them with nominees before the election of directors. Read more about AHA’s 501(c) pursuit here.
  • What are the benefits of being on the AHA board?  Serving on the AHA Board is an opportunity to help shape the next chapter of a national, generational organization at a pivotal moment in its history. Board members will guide the AHA through renewed growth, strengthen its financial footing, and expand its impact in growing and supporting the hobby of homebrewing and fermentation. Service also provides the chance to build deep relationships with leading homebrewers, educators, judges, and community leaders from across the country, gain exposure to national-level nonprofit governance, and contribute alongside a highly engaged network of passionate, mission-driven peers. Few volunteer roles match this level of responsibility, influence, and long-term impact.
