Are you ready for some football?!
We put together a selection of CraftBeer.com appetizers that are perfect for football season. Each recipe incorporates beer in some way, which is a fun way to bring your favorite homebrews and craft beers into the culinary world.
1. Bacon-Wrapped Beer Brats
The bratwurst sausage has been gracing the buns of football fanatics across the country for years. The classic beer brat is made by boiling the sausages in beer prior to grilling them up. The result is a juicy, beer-infused brat worthy of the hungriest football fan. This particular recipe takes things one step further by wrapping the brats in bacon and serving them in bite-sized pieces for quick and efficient consumption.
2. Beer-Caramelized Onion Dip
There’s no such thing as a football party without the classic onion dip. All you need is a quarter cup of your favorite hoppy IPA to serve 8 of your friends, so your precious keg of homebrewed IPA won’t suffer too badly. The IPA is used during the caramelization process of the onions and adds an interesting depth to the dip. If you’re feeling adventurous, try substituting the IPA for a darker beer style like brown ale or stout.
3. Pumpkin Beer Pretzels
Week 1 of the NFL regular season also coincides with the emergence of pumpkin beers (for better or for worse). This recipe not only incorporates your favorite pumpkin beer into a pretzel, but includes instructions on making your own beer mustard and sweet pumpkin dip, both of which include beer components. These will be a crowd favorite. Trust us.
4. Beer Caramel Corn
Be sure to have a popcorn-based dish on hand at your football party for the impending interception or bad call. After all, a few kernels of popcorn are easier on your TV screen than the remote control. A bottle of brown ale or porter, preferably with a pecan component, is used as part of a reduction to create the sticky-sweet caramel that will coat the popcorn. Add in some pecans and pretzels, and you’re ready for some football.
5. Chocolate Stout Cookies
Don’t even think about skipping dessert. How are you going to celebrate when your team wins (or drown your sorrows if they don’t)? All it takes is 6-ounces of your tastiest stout to churn out 2-dozen chocolate stout cookies, topped with salted caramel frosting & pretzels. Need I say more?
6. Belgian Tripel & Honey Black Pepper Wings
No football game is complete without plate stacked dangerously high with chicken wings. This recipe uses Belgian-style tripel–a complex strong ale typically with a yeast-driven spice character–in it’s honey pepper sauce.
7. Vegetarian Chipotle & Chocolate Stout Chili
This veggie-friendly chili is made with your favorite chocolate stout! Be sure to make enough for leftovers, as this heart-healthy chili is perfect for the colder months ahead.
8. Baked Chicken and Spinach Flautas
Crunchy, baked chicken and spinach flautas made with your favorite brown ale. Serve these with guacamole, salsa and homemade sour cream.
9. Beer-Candied Bacon
This recipe for beer-candied bacon is an essential football companion. The sugary sweetness of the brown sugar glaze is just the right contrast to the hearty bacon.
10. Sriracha Stout Chex Mix
Here’s a twist on the classic Chex Mix—a Sriracha Stout Chex Mix. The stout is reduced to thick syrup, and butter and Sriracha is added to that syrup. This blended with cashews, Thai green curry, and the Rice Chex
