Sorry about that man.  Moisture on the way.  Every day at noon here, still dumping and snow up high.

BTW, can you dry chantys?  Obviously fresh is best, but can you preserve them?

Thanks.

You get that jerky dehydrator fired up and you just clean it real good and dry those chanterelles...
No problem...soak em in a little re-hydration water party prior to use...else put em in a soup dry..
good to go..

I've seen dried chanterelles sold commercially.  I'd agree with the dehydrator suggestion.  But really, I'd just use them all fresh because they won't be nearly as good later.  Unless you have way more than you can use.  Then, you just suck.   ;)

It is true, I do suck.  It is an amazing year in these parts;
Mid June until snow off and plenty of moisture.

I left the masses, and only took the fresh prime of pure orange with a firm enrolled cap...youngsters.
Left all else to spread the cause.

Thanks for the tips on drying.  Maybe next year.
Cheers to fall fungi. ;)

I've been researching Texas mushrooms. However if I were to go looking I'd probably get arrested. :'-(

Last night though, mushrooms crept their way into my dreams. Inspired by this thread I suppose. Been too dry here for any fungi.

Chanterelles? In Texas?! Maybe I should talk to a local mycologist to go about finding them.

Don't expect them to share the location of their secret chanterelle hunting grounds. :)

Who knows? I ain't going out picking mushrooms without an expert. Chanterelles or not. Though I can tell you that in moister years mushrooms can be had by the sack-full or should I say pickup bed-full out where the cattle pasture. 8) I don't want my looking for dinner being confused with that other sort of gathering. ;D

I picked a ton of mushroom in my yard yesterday.  Unfortunately they aren't anything you'd want to eat.  Not poisonous, but not tasty according to the mushroom guy I took some samples to a couple of years ago.

These big guys grow near Douglas firs.  The biggest one is about 5 inches across.  All that moss - yeah, that's a NW lawn :)

They're very yellow underneath

A favorite of banana slugs

I picked a big bag about 2/3rds full of those plus a bunch of other varieties (also safe to eat, but not delicious) before mowing the lawn.  It doesn't really work to mow them and you end up with a big pile of mush in the lawn.

Was that five inch reference to the SLUG?? ???

Underside shot resembles a Sullius species....or some polypore.

No, I think the slug was probably 6-7 inches long.  A decent sized one, but not the biggest I've seen. :)

There are a lot of mushrooms associated with Douglas firs apparently, including several Suillus.  It might be this one, but I don't know much about shrooms and my pictures aren't all that great.
