It seems sushi places are popping up all over the place and imo it shows in the variable quality. Maybe I'm just really finicky about sushi but a lot of the places around me aren't that good. It's not really 'bad' per se but just not right. They also now have a sushi section in many grocery stores but that doesn't really work for me either. For me a roll has to be made fresh, with ingredients of varying temerature (for one, the rice cannot be cold). The grocery store stuff is made and then refrigerated which kind of ruins the texture for me.
As much as I love beer, I prefer sake with sushi. But if you haven't tried Hitochino Nest Red Rice Ale with sushi, give it a try. It's a 'different' beer for sure.
