Best 3 roller mill?
« on: August 08, 2023, 08:17:24 am »
Which manufacturer has the best 3 roller mill on the market. I am looking to upgrade my 2 roller barley crusher - any opinions?
Thanks

I'd say that, for the money, Monster makes one of the better 3 roller mills.
Their 2 roller mill with the 2" rollers would also be an upgrade from the Barley Crusher.

From the numerous 3-roller horror stories I've heard over the years, I'd say that only a geared, 3 roller unit should be considered as best. That way, all the rollers can actually be relied on to turn and crush.

Not to mention that 3 rollers are pretty much unnecessary

Couple of years ago I was in the market for a 3 geared mill. Seriously considered Monster Mill. Had a few question about the mill. Owner was a complete a$s. Refused to answer my questions and accused me of attempting to steal his mill idea. What a total and complete a$s.

While, apparently, Monster Mill has the only 3 geared mill I refuse to deal with them.

I use an inexpensive 2-roller from Ferroday, and have been super happy with it.  I have no idea what I'm missing out on with a fancier one, but I don't need to know.  Great results & consistency.  Probably about the cheapest one out there.

I know this thread is quite stale. I’ve had a stainless 3 roller Monster for a long time. It was when Monster was in its infancy. I would second buying a geared version. I figured out that my 3 roll mill couldn’t be tight to the base. Left it somewhat loose and it hasn’t stalled on me since. I fought it until I figured this out. I’m guessing I’ve ran 2,500# through it and it is still like new. Hooked it up to an antique 1/2” Skill drill with a router speed control.  My hopper holds about 40# of grain. Love the mill, would buy another. I’ve never needed customer service after my purchase.

My wife bought me a 2 roller mill for Xmas last year, and I gotta say I love it.  It is the Hullwrecker and I have seen a huge jump in my efficiency by crushing my own grains.  Now, with that said, I would have no idea what the difference is by having 3 rollers.  But, I can say, that the mill I am using has increased my efficiency and has been fun to use. It is kinda cool to add that to the process.

I've had a Crankandstein 3 roll mill since 2012, and it has been awesome. I never hear about them, but I can vouch for the quality and performance. I run it at .030 for BIAB.

I kinda doubt it's a homebrewer mill

Unfortunately, it's a hop pellet mill.
