What's the actual date on this?

Always the first Friday and Saturday in October.

I dont think you have to be a moonshiner at all. No one there IS a moonshiner.  ;)

How long of a ride is it for you to show up? 15 hours?

I like the RV idea. Would be nice to have some serious culinary ability. Im into roughing it and all but ....

You know we could pitch this as a reality show.

I know somebody has a video camera to record all the goings on ;D

My guess is no cameras allowed.  ;)

Was the offending post taken out and then it was locked - cuz I don't see anything taboo there other than the title itself?

The distilling thread was locked because of the legal and legislative actions the AHA is involved in and/or are likely to be involved. Discussions of this topic will be a significant detriment should the wrong person look into this and get the wrong idea about what we are about. It's in our best interests to avoid the topic at this time.

Why not?  Political correctness?  Big Brother?  Yelling fire in a crowded theater?  Please...

Back on topic....

There are no moonshiners at the "moonshiners reunion".

Barney Barnwell, the owner/operator of this event does descend from a line of moonshiners and puts this bluegrass festival and get-together every year just to celebrate the heritage. He is a musician and owns a recording studio, Overall Productions, and is the founder of C.S.A. - Conservation of Southern Artist. He's even made a movie. It's a comedy about a moonshiner getting over on the law, kind of like the Dukes of Hazzard kind of thing, and follows loosely the song "Dooley".

I’ve been trying to understand the irrational fear many people have about discussing distillation. If you even mention the “D” word some people get weak in the knees and their eyes start rolling around in their heads.

So, I went to my confidant and adviser, my wife, and was discussing peoples’ reactions to the D-word on this forum with her.   My 11 year old son was listening and looking thoughtful, “Dad, it’s just like Lord Voldemort – ‘He Who Shall Not Be Named!’  They’re afraid of the name.”

Hmm…  I think he’s got something there.  There is a great deal of misinformation and superstition about distilling out there.  Many people think that if you even whisper the D-word, the boogeyman is gonna jump through the computer monitor and hack away at you with an axe.  Only the actual act of distilling alcohol (without a license) is illegal.

On this forum we discuss every other form of alcoholic beverage production - inside-out, upside-down, forward, backwards, and sideways - fearlessly.  Why does the room clear when someone mentions the D-word?   I believe it’s superstition -plain and simple.

Perhaps if it were called something else it might not be so scary?  How about:
Purification of a Select Compound by Phase-Change Separation?

That covers both liquid to gas and liquid to solid phase change purification.
We could call it PSC-PCS for short.

There’s nothing like a good PC acronym to take the scary out of a thing.

Yelling fire in a crowded theater?

You think that's fun, some time try running into a fire house yelling "Movie! Movie!" Surprisinly, there is no law against that.  :-\

Only happens if you whisper it 3 times :D
