Finishing off a bottle of Redwood Empire Pipe Dream Bourbon Whiskey. I tried not to like this bottle since it originated in California, but dangit, it's tasty. It's 40 beans in NC, but I see in CA it can be had for less.

Finished up a bottle of Pinhook Rye'd On last night. Too much spearmint for my tastes and a bit price at 42 beans per bottle.

When I think of Bourbon the first state that comes to mind is NOT CA. ;)

That's a nice gift! Oban is often overlooked but it's a nice midpoint between a sweeter Highland malt and the smoker island distilleries.

Agreed, upon first time tasting this I found it to have a very light and pleasant smokiness to it.

Redwood Empire Emerald Giant seemed tasty at first, but as the bottle nears the end it's apparent it has far too much spearmint for my tastes. I won't buy another bottle of it.

To be sure. Oban always has a place on my shelf. It is one of the Single Malts that I include in my collection of Scotch Whiskeys, currently numbering 10. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Finishing off a bottle of Jim Beam Pre-Prohibition Rye. Not too shabby at $22 on sale. Lots of black pepper and oak.

I bought a bottle of Thomas S. Moore Port Cask Finished Bourbon and the Cabernet Sauvignon Finished Bourbon and while interesting, neither was worth the price of admission. I skipped the Chardonnay Cask Finished Bourbon and I'm glad I did. I'm sure someone loves these, but their too pricey for what you get IMHO.

Killed these tonight. Skip them.

I'm finally getting around to tasting the whiskeys I picked up on my trip to Nashville. Tonight I cracked into a bottle of Belle Meade sour mash bourbon and I'm really digging it. I could just sniff my glass all night long, I'm getting marshmallow,  honey, caramel, a bit of sherry and some stone fruit.

I'm getting some rye spice on the palate, along with some oak and an interesting cherry/berry flavor. Not as sweet as many bourbons, but enough to give a nice balance. This is a really nice one.

Cracking into a bottle of George Dickel Barrel Select that was an impulse buy in the Nashville Airport while waiting for my flight home last month.

Nose is varnish (not unpleasant), white chocolate, and almond extract. Taking a sip it is a bit surprising that it is so dry given the sweet aromatics. I get spicy rye and oaky dryness. I do pick up vanilla and stone fruit, but it is on the finish as the dryness fades.

I'm drinking this neat now, but I think this one will come into its own on the rocks. It reminds me of a nice sipping Canadian whiskey.

Not a Dickel fan. I ended up giving away my Batch 1 bottle of Bottled In Bond. It was atrocious.
