They need to be able to stack cases of bottles.  Odd size bottles screw that up.

The Sammy bottles are out...big script on the side saying “Sam Adams”.
Found some plain non-descript bottles from the Real Ale Co., in Texas.
Basically, I bought the bottles and the beer was free!

Sam Adams bottles are OK because they are ubiquitous. Part of the idea is to keep the size uniform and the other part is to keep the entries from being identifiable.

Fit 6 bottles in a six pack holder and 4 six packs in a case box - that has always been our club comp rules.  So we see some 11.2 oz bottles come through and allow them.  No pints.  We had some cans, though, in the last couple years....

The Real Ale Co. bottles are complete void of any raised lettering, unlike the Sammy bottles. The last time we entered the Blue Bonnet (largest home-brew competition in the US), their rules stated that the bottles must not have any identifying markings. None.

i have only been a bottler, and i have been fairly picky about it.

by far my favourite two are 500ml german style bottles, i prefer the shorter one but they are much less common than the tall one.

fave 330ml is just the standard belgian 330ml. the trappist ones are made of heavier glass i believe but of course thats a lot of money to by dozens of trappist beers.

I like the shape and cleanness (no edges/odd parts to get dirty or difficult to clean and the glue they use on these comes off really easily and cleanly. just soak them in hot water for a few minutes and boom, whole label slides off.

also there are some bottles that are not cappable with an emily capper at least. they have an extra lip that resists the cap crimping or have a mouth that is 5% or so bigger than standard and it wont fit.

so again, i tend to stick with these ones.

I have seen bottles for sell online from sites like northern brewer, Amazon, and mr.beer. I haven’t been to any homebrew stores let to see if they have any since the closest in an hour way.  Since I drive an hour to work each night when I don’t have to drive I don’t want to drive.
