Brunwater post boil volume question
« on: September 22, 2018, 12:35:09 pm »
One of the fields in the water adjustment sheet in Brun water v5.4 asks for total batch volume or post boil volume.   Just curious if I should enter the pre-chilling volume or volume after chilling.

Thanks

I don't think it would make a whole lot of difference, but I do total batch volume.  Maybe Martin will let us know if that's right.

The batch volume is only used for color prediction.

Right, but I'd consider your batch volume to be an actual (corrected) volume, which would be chilled wort.  Just as a general rule.

I agree with Denny, Martin is the best to clarify. Having said that, I’ll take a guess to see if I’m close: ‘total batch’ in my mind would be the volume of wort that has all processes complete into the fermenter. In my mind, post boil would mean the volume at flame out which may not include all processes complete prior to transfer to the fermenter.

Pre or post chilling volumes are only about 4% different. That’s not really worth concern. But more importantly, that volume is only used for color prediction.
