Belgian dark strong ale
The Mead Mamas, a female meadmaking group, are part of Michigan's CRAFT homebrew club and have been making mead since 2008. Our goal is to make the best mead possible and further the mead community.
This braggot recipe--an ancient historically associated with medieval Britain--showcases the marriage of beer and mead. In this case, the recipe uses a Belgian dark strong ale base combined with enough honey to showcase the qualities both the beer and mead qualities.
The Mead Mamas even took it a step further and served this recipe as a braggot slushy during the Michigan Homebrew Festival. To recreate the slushies, blend this beer with peach mead (the Mead Mamas used a mead in the 12-14% ABV range) at a beer-to-mead ratio of 1:2 and run the resulting mixture through a slushy machine.
